When we lose a loved one, we need to take a moment for reflection, to remember all the good times and the challenges in our relationship. Also a moment to contemplate whether we are making the most of the time we have here. A lifetime is like a spec of star dust in the universe, I wonder if we all stopped just for a moment to consider what is truly important whether we would do half the things we busy ourselves with.
Spending a few moments to create a small altar to our loved ones and our Ancestors is an opportunity for some self reflection too. It is a place to honour those who have gone before us whether our relationships were ok or not. An opportunity, maybe, for us to acknowledge that our relations, our ancestors were. themselves. endeavouring to reconcile the differences and the lives they found themselves living. It is a quiet moment to give thanks for a lifetime long or short.
An altar can be a simple candle or flowers or anything you choose. It is our intention in the creation of our altar that is important.
